Pudong International Airport (Shanghai) Pudong International Airport was opened in 1999 with the aim to relieve the Hong Qiao (Shanghai) International Airport. Soon there was however felt that the capacity of the airport of traffic was not sufficient. The grounds of the airport covers an area of 40 square kilometers. The two runways have a length of 3,800 or 4,000 meters and are each 60 metres wide. The airport are in total area up to 76 aircraft at the same time, are also 50,000 square metres of storage space available. Used is the Pudong International Airport by some 50 airlines, which together control more than 130 destinations within and outside of China. A flight to Frankfurt will take approximately 10 hours and 20 minutes. Vienna is about 10 hours and 35 minutes, and Zurich will be offered only with a stopover.
The flight time is 12 hours and 35 minutes. The main attraction of the airport is likely to be the world’s only commercial magnetic levitation. With the Transrapid, which connects the airport with the Pudong district, speed limits are reached up to 431 kilometers per hour.
